Mata
The history of the wood “Mata de S. Jacinto” begun on the past century when the entire formed peninsula was made by sands in movement in witch the pioneer vegetable communities had difficulties on installing.
The arborisation by itself being made by the seeds lined up; using the seed of Pinheiro Bravo and Acácia over the seeds it was collocated moliço on the wood for the protection of the same.
Formatting this way a population of pinheiro bravo and poor acacia but capable of resist to the adverse conditions existing there, holding the sands and improving the soil by the deposit of organic material and by the fixation of azoth on the atmosphere by the roots of the acacias.

On august of 1995, occurred an violent fire that destroyed about 200 hectares of the reserve “Reserva Natural das Dunas de S. Jacinto”( wood and vegetation of the dunes) burning even some areas that already had been submitted to a cut.
