The closeness to the sea

Because of its closeness to the sea, in the city are made a lot of activities related to it.
The salt was during centuries one of its most famous products.
In the “vasas” and the “lodos” there is the catch of molluscs while the catch of the moliço almost disappeared because of the utilization of chemical fertilizants.
The fishing is practiced in the interior waters and in the sea, while the fish culture develops in the abandoned Salinas. Around the river there are industrial “surtos” and a strongly mechanized economy.

The tourism is an activity that appeared more recently and it takes advantage of the landscape and the many attractive virtues of the city offers.
